Facebook Messenger chat analyzer
Step by step
Download your Messenger conversations
- 01
In Messenger or Facebook: Settings → See more in Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
- 02
Tap Download or transfer information → your account → Some of your information → Messages.
- 03
Choose Download to device. Set Date range to All time, Format to JSON and Media quality to Low.
- 04
Wait for Meta's email, then download the ZIP.
- 05
Upload the ZIP whole and pick the conversation you want analyzed.
What to upload: the ZIP from Meta (JSON or HTML both work)
Meta builds the download in the background — it can take a few hours for long histories.
Honest limits
What it can't do
- There's no one-tap export; Meta emails the download, sometimes hours later.
- End-to-end encrypted chats aren't always in the Accounts Center download, so check your thread is in the ZIP.
- Photos, reactions and voice clips aren't analyzed — only written messages.
- The report reads patterns in messages, not intentions.
What you'll see
What a Messenger analysis shows
01
Years of Messenger history
Facebook chats often go back a decade. The timeline shows how the tone moved across all of it, week by week.
02
Who carries it
Each person's share of messages, your busiest hours and days, and how the balance changed over time.
03
Compatibility with phases
A 0–100 compatibility score split into the stages of your relationship, with examples from your messages.
04
Personality and words
MBTI-style reads for each person and a word cloud of what each of you says that the other doesn't.

What couples tell us
We thought we were falling apart. The analysis came back at 89% compatible but flagged that we never had phone-free quality time. Fixing that one thing fixed everything.
I was so confused about the mixed signals my partner was giving. The sentiment chart showed they were always distant right before big work deadlines. Changed everything once I saw the pattern.
Honestly didn't expect much, but the MBTI read pegged me as ENFP from texts alone. Sent it to friends and they all said the same thing — eerily accurate.
A friend sent me their 'chat wrapped' of our DMs. The word cloud caught all our inside jokes — we couldn't stop laughing at how often we both say 'bruh'.
